There is life outside your apartment..

ok.. so i finally started blogging. it only took about 5 weeks.. but it will probably take me a couple of weeks to catch up on what happened in that time.. so it will really be about 9 or 10 weeks behind.

seriously though u should be asking me whats going on instead of reading this.. unless you're like in some weird timezone where we're never online at the same time you can find me on skype as ian.ftw.

moving onwards heres some of the top headlines for the past month

1) I scored a bunch of free junk from Qantas (in japanese カンタス, dont say it 3 times fast) because the in seat entertainment unit at my seat was on the fritz. I didnt even notice for about half the flight cos i was too busy playing my DS. Its probably better that it was broken cos i was actually forced to talk to some of the ppl who were pretty nice. anyway the lady offered be $100 worth of items from the duty free catalog. you can see what i obtained below. Although ive given half of it away as omiyage.. its still a pretty sweet deal.

and if you're wondering.. yes thats a Lego Darth Vader watch

2) moving on.. ive discovered that in japan.. or at least on the jet program, that a LOT of alcohol will be consumed. i have no idea what ppl do if they dont drink, cos thats all i seem to be doing.. that and karaoke.. usually both at the same time. In the first week i was in japan i had nomi-houdai (all you can drink) three times.. and i went to an izakaya at least 2 other times, and karaoke 3 times. karaoke isnt like in Sydney where we rock up and ask "one or two hours?" its almost always all nite.. or at least till some ridiculous hour when everyone passes out.

3) Shirakawa is pretty cool. Yeh i was totally worried about it before i arrived. but theres like 2 department stores and a Uniqlo and most other kinds of shops. Also sites like amazon.jp have free shipping and express postage (often next day) so i dont really have trouble obtaining most things. Although i do have to drive everywhere.. which is mildy annoying since theres a zero alcohol limit for driving. Its pretty far to the next big town where anything happens.. although its not much further than the CDB was from Thornleigh.. it is a tad pricier.

my apartment is pretty awesome. its way bigger than i thought it would be, and its on the ground floor for drunken stumblings home. it is a bit of a pain to keep clean cos its so big, and ive been warmed it gets ludicrously cold inside in the winter. brrr

4) my homestay family was pretty awesome too

the cooked me an "australian" 500g steak. this is it alongside their parents' 300g steak and the kids' 150g steak.

3) i have no idea what forms im signing or bills im paying! ppl hand me forms all day and i jsut look at them and but my name in.. then someone else fills out the rest. bills are pretty insane.. some i need to pay and some i dont (the come out of my payslip) but im not really sure which is which. also i just got my keitai bill.. and it was about au$150! hrm.. seems that sending emails from my phone is really expensive.. i proably shouldnt have sent all those emails with pictures in them. at least i think thats what it was.. the 2 big charges are "packet correspondence charge" and "trouble charge" .. o.0
